Shovel Knight
So, Yacht Club Games unveiled Shovel Knight a couple months ago, who's excited? I am, in fact, so much that I supported it on Kickstarter. Now, when it comes out, I get it free! But anyway, here's the link to the developer interview on NL:
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/03/developer_interview_yacht_club_games_on_shovel_knight_and_loving_nintendo
Check it out!
It's coming out on Wii U eShop and 3DS eShop(along with Linux and Mac and Steam but who cares) and it'll launch at an estimated time of sometime in September.
Thoughts?

Re: Shovel Knight
This looks pretty fun, almost like an actual SNES game coming out today.
This interested me the most, said by Sean Velasco, Captain of Yacht Club games, to the new NF magazine:
"Balancing the difficulty of a game is never an easy proposition, especially when that game is meant for all ages. ... We are developing Shovel Knight with subtly simple controls and abilities that the player can easily master. For instance, you can swing your shovel at a rock, but what will happen? Will it fly into the air? Will it crumble into dust? Maybe something will be revealed when the rock is moved! The fun comes from using your skills in new and varied situations."
And another segment:
"We recognize that today's gaming sensibilities are a bit different than the NES days. Too much repetition or crushing difficulty are definitely not a part of the old days that we are seeking to reproduce. We're currently testing out a few things to evolve old-school mechanics like having a limited number of lives. What if insetad of losing gold or experience when you died several times on a particular stage, you were instead offered some gold to try another stage? What if, in your last breath, you could somehow claw back from the brink to shovel another day? This type of thing gives players the incentive to practice the mechanics, take risks and explore. Isn't that what games are all about?"
Yacht Club games are quickly becoming one of my favorite Studios.

Re: Shovel Knight
Yeah, I saw that, and found it intriguing. They mentioned somewhere that if they got enough sales, they'd consider making a Super Shovel Knight or ever Shovel Knight 64! so I'm hoping they do well. Anyhow, it looks awesome, and is one of my most anticipated games of 2013 actually.
Re: Shovel Knight
I actually blew this game off after reading the first few headlines of articles about this game on nintendo life but after seeing gameplay for the first time I knew it was a day one buy for me

Re: Shovel Knight
Is there actually a new partner game for this that was announced, or was I hit in the head with a shovel too hard?
Because buying one on Wii U and one on 3DS would be cool.

Wasn't that another character that was announced or something? The one shovel knight is trying to save?Professor Clayton wrote:Is there actually a new partner game for this that was announced, or was I hit in the head with a shovel too hard?

Re: Shovel Knight
That sounds right, I just barely remember even hearing about it. I'll do sone digging later I guess.
Re: Shovel Knight
Yesterday the Shovel Knight Kickstarter surveys came out! I know none of you funded it but I thought I'd post this, it sounds like they're getting close to finishing it!
