I'd also reccomend you check out the Sticky in this Forum before writing a review for some guidelines. :3
If this becomes too cluttered it may eventually have to have a directory in the 1st post, saying what review is where.

The Review Topic Empty 3D Classics: Kid Icarus

Post by KiDasharus Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:17 pm

Have you ever played a game that you disliked at first, just to love it later? Well Kid Icarus is one of those games. You'll go through it and get mad at those enemies, bosses, and level design that just seem so terrible. In fact, you may not even make it past the first few levels depending on how patient you are. You see, Kid Icarus has a flipped difficulty. The first Stage (the Underworld) is incredibly frusterating the first time through, the second Stage (the Overworld) is a decent difficulty, and Skyworld (the third Stage) is pretty simple. Beating Medusa is fun, but is also incredibly easy for a boss fight(and no, this isn't really a spoiler). If you go through it again, you'll find your second playthrough MUCH more enjoyable than the first. You'll know by now that you need the Arrows of Power for it to be easier, and where they are. You'll take in the music and the backgrounds and love them. After your second playthrough, you may even go for it a third time, to try at getting the best ending, if you haven't already gotten it. All in all, Kid Icarus is a fun little game that you should be sure to pick up(as long as you have the patience).

Overall, I'm giving this a 9/10, because of how fun it is, but only after you've played through it once.

The Review Topic Empty Review: VVVVVV

Post by Professor Clayton Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:32 pm

Sometimes the best of games come in the simplest of packages; and VVVVVV is no exception. Continuing on the recent trend of retro games, VVVVVV manages to combine old with new, creating a sastifying result.
In this platformer, you are the mighty Viridian, captian of a vessel sailing through space. Suddenly things become interesting, and everyone must evacuate the ship. Coming to all alone in the unknown depths of space, you set off to find your friends. This game is heavy on the platforming, although the minor story is still compelling.
Your home base is the Ship you had to evacuate; and can be accesed by warps. Warp points are scattered around the map, which is conviently shown on the bottom screen. On the top screen is all the action, accompanied by smooth visuals and a pleasing, albeit basic, 3D effect. You must head out into the world and find all of your crew, who are helplessly wandering around.
As soon as you step out into the world, you are free to explore. The controls are basic, D-pad to move (or Circle pad) and A to flip. Flipping reverses gravity, making only you fall in the opposite direction until hitting a surface. This is a simple yet clever way to travrse the environment, as one hit kills you.
The main story takes about 2-3 hours to beat depending on skill level. Completion will have you coming back for more however, as there are 20 deviously hidden Trinkets to find. These trinkets can provide easily hundreds of deaths each, easily bringing the time played up.
As if this wasn't enough for an eShop title, there are 18 bonus levels to play. These levels all take an hour average to beat, and longer to complete. These all have different stories and levels, making them all challenging.
All in all, VVVVVV is one of the finest eShop offerings available, due to it's fun gameplay, tight controls, and amount of content. Add in the killer soundtrack along with a fun story, and you won't want to set this one down until you've found every Trinket.

Overall Score: 9.5 / 10

The Review Topic Empty Little Inferno (Wii U eShop)

Post by KiDasharus Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:49 pm

Little Inferno is odd from the start, in fact, it was odd since the first trailer hit. The only thing you do in the entire game is burn, well, stuff, from a School Bus(full of screaming children) to wooden blocks to a crazy rabbit. Yep, most of the stuff in there seems to be pretty random stuff. However, just after you think that there IS really no point to anything, you get a letter confirming that, saying the obvious. Speaking of letters, you get a few every once and a while, from the creator of Little Inferno, your neighbor(Sugar Plumps), and the Weather Man, who always basically says the same thing, which is the forecast is Snow, so just stay home and burn some more stuff.

The stuff you burn, you must first order from a catalog. The first one is named "Chimney Stuffers," and you buy as much stuff as you can get and burn it. You get more coins than you started out with, which you then go and use to buy more stuf to burn, etc etc. To unlock more catalogs, you much complete a certain amount of Combos(burning certain stuff with other stuff; for example, burning Corn and a Television together gets you the combo "Movie Night".) and you must have burned everything in your current catalog. There are 99 combos in all to get, so it'll keep you occupied for quite a while.

Overall, I'm giving this a 9.5/10, it has a very interesting story and fun and simple gameplay that no one should miss out on.

The Review Topic Empty New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)

Post by KiDasharus Mon Feb 04, 2013 12:50 pm

Is the 2nd Mario of 2012 worth getting? And not only that, it was the 2nd 2D Mario of 2012 too. After New Super Mario Bros. 2, could Nintendo offer anything unique and fun to come back to later on? Well, I'm glad to say that the answers to all of those questions are "yes". New Super Mario Bros. U does what every other New Super Mario Bros. title should've done: it's not boring to play, finding the star coins is fun, and the interconnected map is really fun to look around on, for some reason. The levels are cleverly designed, the graphics(ooohh... those graphics) are absolutely AMAZING, the star coins strategically placed. There's some reused soundtrack, sure, and only one new suit, the Power Acorn, but after playing for just a little while, you forget about it, because the greatness of the rest of the game more than makes up for it. It doesn't take all too long to actually beat the game, but the Star Coins and Secret Exits will keep ou coming back until you've discovered every last one. Not to mention, even when you beat the game and/or get all the Star Coins and Secret Exits, there's still the Challenge Mode that'll keep you busy for hours trying to beat records for whatever the criteria is for the challenge to be completed. There's also a Coin Battle Mode and a Boost Rush Mode that's fun to go through with friends or family.

Overall, I'm giving this a 10/10. This is the best 2D Mario I've ever played, MUCH better than NSMB2 or NSMBW. This is a must-have for any Platforming-loving Wii U owner.

The Review Topic Empty Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble

Post by Knuckles Mon Feb 04, 2013 10:20 pm

Sonic's troubles aren't from the antagonists.

Sonic Triple Trouble (Sonic & Tails 2 in Japan) could be the best Sonic Game Gear game, or not. A little history first, Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails in Japan) is the prequel to Triple Trouble. The Spin Dash from Sonic 2, Super Peel Out from Sonic CD, are both present in Chaos. Tails can also fly, but unlike the console Sonic games, in which you just have to fly, you have to press Up, A on the ground to fly. Also following from Sonic Chaos are the Pogo Stick item, Rocket Shoes for Sonic, and a Super Flight item for Tails. Adding in this sequel are a snowboard item in the ice zone for Sonic, and a submarine that fires missles for Tails. Note: One hit while in the submarine, its gone.

The Plot of Triple Trouble is the same old Sonic 3 plot, Knuckles is tricked (yet again) into helping Dr. Robotnik take over the world. To do this, they need the Chaos Emeralds, which Knuckles steals from Sonic. (Pay attention to the Emeralds that were stolen, and you'll notice only five were taken, and Robotnik has the sixth. Six you say, that can't be right, but it is. We'll touch back on that later.)

So naturally, Sonic and Tails run/fly after Knuckles to get the emeralds back, and they are hidden within the six zones(three acts per zone, two platforming, one boss). Not that many, but these are zones the size of Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Unfortunately, size doesn't help the level gimmicks this game has. Every level has one or two gimmicks that don't help the gameplay at all, but instead they gradually get more annoying, making the last level a confusing mess. Back to the first zone, the gimmick here is springs on top of almost every tree. That doesn't sound that bad, but on that stages boss battle, you have to get the only six rings in that act by using the springs, and there aren't any indicators that they're up there. This reviewer played that particular boss three times before finding those rings. A reminder to fans and newcomers, without rings, Sonic/Tails dies upon being damaged by an enemy. As long as he has one ring, he can live.

Another odd thing about Triple Trouble is the taking of damage. In every other Sonic game this reviewer knows of, you take one hit, you lose all of your rings. In Triple Trouble you lose from 20-50 depending on your amount. And its occasionly hard to see the time, rings and lives bar, as it gets hidden into the backround.

To make matters worse, the physics don't play like Sonic. His jumps are too high. In order to hide this, the developers made him disproportionally tall, and Sonic feels overall like a different character. The developers also made Sonic and Tails be able to curl into a ball in mid-jump, a move never used before.

Back to the Chaos Emeralds, what only six? But every Sonic game since Sonic 2 on the MD/Genesis has had seven! On contrare, the Master System/Game Gear games only had six. On to the Chaos Emerald stages themselves, you have to find Chaos Emerald item boxes in the zones, one per act, none on the boss battles. Like earlier games, you need fifty rings to enter the Chaos Emerald stage. Once inside the stage, it's a confusing maze with a minute and thirty second timer, that can be refilled with limited stopwatch item boxes found within the course. Your goal is to find Nack(US)/Fang(EUR) the Weasel, beat him in a fight, and take the emerald.
These stages controlls itself like regular parts of the game, however, in Chaos Emerald stages two and four, you take controll of the Tornado, (Sonic & Tails Bi-Plane) and attempt to collect 80 rings. The plane itself handles to hard, making it difficult to go in the direction of the floating rings. Nevertheless, the stages are completeable, and collecting all rings rewards you with a fight against Nack/Fang, and a Chaos Emerald to the victor.
Now here is a confusing part, as there are six emeralds, but you can only collect five, even though the special stage screen shows a spot for a sixth. Remember, in the intro, Robotnik had, and still has the sixth emerald. So when you collect five your done, no need to search the rest of the zones for that last emerald, as you are rewarded the last one in the final fight.

In terms of difficulty, Triple Trouble is easy for long time fans, and at a normal/middle difficulty for newcomers, although both will question the physics of the game. Another difference from this game to others, Tails' levels are easier. Tails can easily skip giant sections of the game, all by flying. Not only that, but in Chaos Emerald course 5, Tails can just fly past areas that can be rendered unplayable if you break specific rocks as Sonic. And to make things more annoying, Tails gets his submarine in a boss fight, making it childs play, upposed to being difficult as it was playing as Sonic.

The graphics are rather nice for Game Gear visuals, and the music isn't half bad. Some songs are better than others, but none are memorable. Occasional frame rate slowdown occurs when to

The Review Topic Empty Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble

Post by Knuckles Mon Feb 04, 2013 10:22 pm

...too many things are happening on screen, but those the only times that the slowdown occurs.

Overall: Sonic Triple Trouble could be the best Sonic Game Gear game made, but its confusing physics, awkard gimmicks, and bizarre Chaos Emerald courses all make it hard to decide. If your a fan of Sonic, you probably want to pick this up, but if you are a newcomer, this will be a less enjoyable experience, leaving you wondering why people like Sonic games.

Score: 6.5/10

The Review Topic Empty NightSky (3DS eShop, Steam)

Post by KiDasharus Mon Feb 11, 2013 12:50 pm

NightSky is one of those beautiful games that you don't see very often in gaming. The story is a bit odd, but it starts off with you finding an odd sphere on the beach one day, and don't hesitate to bring it to your house. That night you have the strangest dreams...
And then the game starts with you on the beach, controlling that sphere. The first levels are very simple, some just involove holding your circle pad or keyboard button right. Interestingly, there's a lot of levels like that in the first playthrough. There are no enemies, just the sphere and the surroundings in this odd 2D world. The controls are rather simple; left and right on your device is left or right(most of the time) B is brake (no idea if it's the same on Steam, anyways, B is Brake, again, most of the time) Y is a special power(most of the time) like going fast, or switching gravity. Gameplay is also simple; get from the left side of the screen to the right, with what the environment gives you. Most of the game involves solving some minor puzzles, some can be a bit tricky to pull off, but you'll smile to yourself when you see the solution anyway. There are 10 Worlds, 11 if you count the bonus World, and 12 if you include the Credits which is really a level you can play in. Throughout these Worlds there are Stars -- which unlock more levels in the bonus World. After you've completed the game, if you want, you can replay on the Alternate levels, which is basically harder versions of the regular levels. The 2nd playthrough with this game is also more enjoyable, as the first playthrough is fairly easy. The second playthrough actually has you thinking at some points, and is much more fun. Along with the brilliant level design in both playthroughs, there's also some really nice original music in NightSky that matches the mood perfectly. This is the 3DS eShop's Masterpiece at the moment, the one you don't want to miss. At $10, you may think it's a bit much, but it's definetly worth it.

I absolutely loved this game, and it's easily one of the if not the best eShop games out there now. I'm giving it a 10/10, because of how amazing this game is in pretty much every aspect.

It did change my mind about TT. As I said before, I'll just play it in Sonic Adventure DX now. A note: TT is not the only game where Sonic does not lose all his rings when hit. Secret Rings, Unleashed, Shadow the Hedgehog, Generations, and Sonic Blast had this feature. I just thought I'd throw that out there. Smile

1. Good for an 8 bit system, not as memorable as the 16 bit games, but it had a few gems.
2. Spoilers! It was rather easy, but I did lose a few lifes on the battle, stupid mistakes. Razz Again this is another one of the Tails easy parts. Just fly above him when he goes undodgeable.
3. Well, I own Sonic 1,2, Triple Trouble, and Spinball, all Game Gear Carts. Out of them, Triple Trouble is the best, but I don't own Blast, which could be better if SEGA would release the darn thing!
Other than that, Drift 2, or Chaos, only because Sonic can throw an Hadouken in Sound Test.

And as for the loss of rings, I didn't know that, as I need to play those games. As for Generations, I forgot about that, since I play with that off.
